Ovacome, the ovarian cancer support charity, will be hosting a free Members' Day in London for anyone who has been affected by ovarian cancer. Family, friends and healthcare professionals are also welcome to attend.

Join us on Saturday 18 May. This will be a full day event with a programme of clinical talks. You are welcome to join us for as much of the day as you like. A light breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Members' Day is a clinical updates day. All four speakers are specialists in treating or supporting those diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Meet our speakers:

  • Dr Rowan Miller, consultant medical oncologist specialising in gynae-oncology and early phase clinical trials at University College London and St Bartholomew's Hospitals, will be providing a talk titled 'General updates in ovarian cancer'. This will cover current developments in initial treatments, maintenance treatments and an overview of changes in rarer ovarian cancers.
  • Dr Michael Flynn, Medical Oncology Consultant working in Gynaecological cancer and Early Phase Trials at University College London Hospital (UCLH), will give a talk on 'New developments in ovarian cancer'. This will cover new evolving treatments in ovarian cancer. This will include vaccines, bispecific antibodies and antibody drug conjugates, cell therapies and DNA damage repair pathway inhibitors. Dr Flynn is the Principal Investigator on Gynae-specific and tumour-agnostic targeted therapy, immunotherapy and combination trials.
  • Dr Cathy Hughes was one of the first specialist nurses in gynaecological cancer in the UK. Having read an article about Ovacome in a Good Housekeeping magazine, Cathy soon became involved with the charity, leading to her becoming an Ovacome trustee. Cathy is currently working at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, home to the West London Gynaecological Cancer Centre, as one of the Divisional Directors of Nursing. Cathy will talk about some of the concepts and changes in the way that people with cancer are managed and supported before and during treatments to optimise health in her talk titled 'Enhanced recovery and prehabilitation'.
  • Sarah Russell, clinical exercise and Pilates specialist for people with cancer, will speak about 'Rethinking post-operative advice on lifting and strength exercises - busting the 'don't lift anything heavy' myth'. Rebuilding your physical strength after surgery and treatment is vital for long term health – and resistance training is an essential ingredient. We need a new narrative on post-operative recovery and advice. In this practical workshop Sarah will share the most up to date recommendations and evidence for exercise after treatment and will demonstrate some safe, easy and doable exercises that can be done by everyone to aid recovery after ovarian cancer. Please wear something comfortable if you would like to take part in Sarah's demonstration.

Attendance is for members only. If you would like to become a member, please fill in our membership form here.

The Members' Day talks will not be recorded or streamed, so if you would like to watch these you will need to attend the event in person.
