National Cancer Medicines Advisory Group support the use of trametinib in Scotland We welcome the announcement today that the National Cancer Medicines Advisory Group (NCMAG) Programme has decided to support the use of trametinib for patients in Scotland with low grade serous ovarian carcinoma after at least one line of platinum-based chemotherapy. Low grade serous ovarian cancer is a rare type of ovarian cancer which can be less responsive to chemotherapy. Trametinib is a MEK-inhibitor which has proven effectiveness in treating low grade ovarian cancer. Today’s decision offers increased treatment choice which is vital for all those with ovarian cancer. Read more about today’s decision on the NCMAG website here. Ovacome provided a Patient Group Partner Statement to the NCMAG Council and attended the Council meeting to advocate for trametinib to be made available on the NHS to patients in Scotland. We would like to thank all our members and service users who assisted us with this process, answering questions and sharing their experiences. It is thanks to them that we were able to advocate so effectively. In England, trametinib is routinely available as an option for adults with recurrent or progressive low grade serous ovarian cancer, it is off-label so not currently licensed for this use. This is for people who have received platinum-based chemotherapy previously and have not had treatment with a MEK-inhibitor in the past. In Wales and Northern Ireland access to tremetinib can be discussed with your consultant. Living with a rarer cancer can feel especially isolating. Ovacome’s rarer cancers support group is an opportunity to meet others, ask questions and share experiences in a friendly and supportive space.
